How to Solve the Puzzles The goal is to guess the
correct sequence of numbers hidden in the code of four number elements.
There are six different numbers that could be in the code: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4,
5. Numbers may or may not be repeated in the code.
A solution will
require you to use the clues provided: Hits and
Misplaced. "H" in the puzzle grid refers
to hits, or the number of correct numbers in their correct place in the
code. "M" in the puzzle grid indicates misplaced, or the
number of correct numbers not in their correct spot. In
evaluating the guess with the secret code, hits take priority over
misplaced in the clues.
For example, if the secret code is
"2 2 1 2", then the guess "1 2 2 0" would
yield these clues: H=1,
M=2. There is one hit because the "2" in the hidden code's
second position lines up with the guess' "2" in the second position. There
are two misplaced elements in the quess because there is a "1" in both the
code and the guess (although not in the same place), and because the "2"
in the guess' 3rd position relates to a "2" in either, but not both, the
code's first or fourth positions.
